Question: Someone I cannot have any relationship with anymore bought me the domain for my website. I am an author and there has been plenty of hits now on my website, so I don’t want to change it.

Don't know if residential location matters (Canada) but how does registering a domain name work?
Question: I’d like to register a name idea for a possible future business ( for the website later) or just to sell the name if I change my mind & someone wants to buy the name. However, I don’t really know how it works to register it. I have seen the odd ad where you can pay a monthly fee to keep the name but I suspect there is more to it than that, since there were 3 different price levels.
